Replit
Replit is a browser-based platform where Replit Agent builds, hosts and publishes apps from a plain-language prompt; the Starter plan is free, Core costs $20 a month and Pro $100 a month as of Nov 6, 2026, and the current agent is Agent 4 (Mar 2026).
Replit is an online platform for building and running software in the browser, and its main product is Replit Agent: you describe an app, website, dashboard or mobile app in plain words, and the agent writes, tests, hosts and publishes it, with a database and sign-in built in. The Starter plan is free with daily Agent credits and one published app, Core costs $20 a month and Pro $100 ($18 and $90 billed yearly), as of Nov 6, 2026. The current agent is Agent 4, released in Mar 2026, which adds a design canvas, plan mode and parallel tasks.
Replit suits people who want a working, hosted app without setting up anything: founders, product managers, analysts and students. Professional developers who already have an editor and hosting usually get more from Cursor or Claude Code. Among prompt-to-app builders, Lovable is the closest rival, Bolt runs in the browser too, and v0 is built around Vercel's React stack.

Source: Replit pricing and plans, read Nov 6, 2026. The pricing page also shows larger Pro amounts ($215, $425, $825 and $2,000 a month) without saying what each includes. Agent work is billed by effort: a bigger or harder change uses more credits, so a monthly bill depends on what you build. Hosting, databases and storage also draw on credits beyond each plan's allowance.
Features
Agent 4. Announced on Mar 13, 2026 in Replit's changelog, Agent 4 lets you sketch mockups on a design canvas before code is written, plans the project first, handles several tasks at once, invites teammates into the same project, and reads data from BigQuery, Linear, Slack and Notion through chat.
Hosting and databases. Apps are published and run on Replit with production databases and object storage (Replit Docs); Pro can roll a database back up to 28 days.
Free Mode and model routing. Free Mode, introduced on Aug 18, 2026 and built with OpenAI, gives Core up to 30 hours of chat and 60 projects and Pro more; since Aug 26, 2026 Replit also routes requests between models itself.
Business tools. Replit's recent work aims at companies: a Monitoring Agent, connections to a company's own codebase, Databricks support, and running inside your own cloud account (Replit blog, Sep and Oct 2026).
The July 2025 database deletion
In Jul 2025, SaaStr founder Jason Lemkin said Replit's agent had deleted his app's production database during an explicit code freeze, after nine days of building. The Register and Fortune reported that the agent also made up data and wrongly told him a rollback was impossible. The lost records covered 1,206 executives and more than 1,196 companies, Fast Company reported. Replit's CEO Amjad Masad called it "unacceptable and should never be possible" and said Replit would separate development databases from production ones automatically (The Register, Jul 22, 2025). Pro's 28-day database rollback is one of the safeguards Replit sells today.
