Devin
Devin is Cognition's autonomous AI software engineer, which takes a task and works on it in the cloud until it opens a pull request; it has a free plan, Pro at $20 a month and Max at $200 a month as of Nov 6, 2026, and Cognition also makes Devin Desktop, the former Windsurf editor.
Devin is an AI software engineer made by Cognition: you give it a task in plain words, and it plans, writes and tests code in its own cloud machine and opens a pull request, working alone for long stretches. Individuals can use it free, or for $20 a month on Pro and $200 on Max, and teams pay $80 a month plus $40 for each full developer seat, as of Nov 6, 2026. Since Jun 2, 2026 Cognition has also sold Devin Desktop, the next generation of the Windsurf editor it bought in July 2025, so one plan now covers the editor and the cloud agent.
Devin fits teams that want to hand off whole tickets (migrations, bug backlogs, upgrades) and review the result. For hands-on coding in your own editor, Cursor or Claude Code keeps you closer to the code, and if you already pay for ChatGPT, Codex gives a similar "send a task, get a pull request" flow at no extra cost.

Source: Devin pricing, read Nov 6, 2026. Cognition publishes no quota numbers. On Apr 14, 2026 it replaced its Core and Team plans with these: self-serve usage beyond the quota is billed in dollars, while Enterprise still counts Agent Compute Units (ACUs), Devin's old unit of work.
How Devin's price changed
Devin first sold to teams at $500 a month when it became generally available on Dec 10, 2024. With Devin 2.0 on Apr 3, 2025, Cognition added a $20 entry plan with pay-as-you-go ACUs at $2.25 each, which VentureBeat reported as a price cut from $500 to $20. The April 2026 change retired ACUs for individuals and set today's Free, Pro and Max plans, with the team minimum at $80 rather than $500 (Cognition).
Features
Devin Cloud. The original Devin: it works in a sandbox with its own shell, editor and browser, plans the task, runs tests and opens a pull request; teams start sessions by tagging it in Slack and answer its pull requests in GitHub (Cognition).
Devin Desktop. Cognition's editor, announced on Jun 2, 2026 as the next generation of Windsurf. It centers on running and reviewing local and cloud agents side by side. Fusion, a harness Cognition says is up to 39% more efficient, came to it and the CLI on Sep 11, 2026.
DeepWiki and Ask Devin. DeepWiki turns a public GitHub repository into browsable documentation, free in its standard form since May 2025; Ask Devin answers questions about a codebase, with its Deep Mode billed by use since Apr 2026 (Cognition).
Devin Review and Devin Security. Devin Review checks pull requests (a two-week trial, then billed by use, free for open-source repositories), and Devin Security, launched Oct 26, 2026, scans for and fixes vulnerabilities.
Cognition, the company
Cognition bought Windsurf's product, brand and remaining team in July 2025, after Google hired Windsurf's founders. It raised more than $1 billion at a $26 billion valuation in May 2026, then over $2 billion at $48 billion on Sep 8, 2026. Cognition said on Sep 25, 2026 that it had passed $1 billion in annualized revenue.
Devin vs the alternatives
- Codex: OpenAI's cloud agent, included with ChatGPT plans; the cheapest way to try task hand-off if you already pay for ChatGPT.
- Claude Code: Anthropic's agent, in the terminal and on the web; pick it for Claude models and close control.
- Cursor: an editor with its own background agents; pick it if you want to code alongside the agent.
- GitHub Copilot: its coding agent takes GitHub issues inside GitHub, where many teams already work.
- Jules: Google's similar agent, closing on Dec 31, 2026.
