Bolt

Bolt (bolt.new) is StackBlitz's AI builder that makes websites, full-stack web apps, mobile apps and slides from a chat prompt, in the browser, with hosting and databases built in; it is free with 1 million tokens a month, and Pro costs $25 a month as of Nov 6, 2026.

Bolt, at bolt.new, is an AI builder from StackBlitz: you describe a website, web app or prototype in chat, and Bolt writes the code, runs it in the browser, and can host it with a database through Bolt Cloud. The Free plan includes 1 million tokens a month (no more than 300,000 a day), Pro starts at $25 a month with 10 million tokens, and Teams costs $30 a member a month, as of Nov 6, 2026. Its agent comes in two tiers, Standard for everyone and Max for paid plans, and Bolt picks the underlying model for each task.

Bolt suits founders, product managers, marketers and agencies who want a prototype or a working app in hours, and its free token allowance is large enough to try a real project. Developers who want to own every part of the stack are better served by Cursor or Claude Code; Lovable is the closest rival, Replit covers a wider range of apps, and v0 fits teams on Vercel.

Source: Bolt pricing and tokens, read Nov 6, 2026. Yearly billing saves up to 28%, Bolt says, without listing yearly prices. Free tokens reset on the 1st of each month and do not roll over; once the daily limit is used, you can still edit code by hand in Code view. On Teams, tokens stay with the member who earned them. Extra tokens (Reload tokens) are sold only on the highest monthly Pro tier or an annual Pro plan, and do not expire.

How Bolt tokens work

Tokens measure the work Bolt's agent does. Most of them go on reading and syncing your project's files, so each message costs more as a project grows; your prompts and Bolt's replies count too. That makes Bolt cheap for small apps and prototypes, and is the main reason a large project can use up a plan quickly. Bolt's help center has guides on prompting efficiently and building in steps for that reason.

Features

Agents. Standard is the fast, token-efficient agent for everyday building; Max, on paid plans, handles large codebases, refactors and open-ended work; Forge, for accounts given access, builds with open-source models (Bolt). Bolt's help center names no underlying third-party models, though Bolt's own Apr 17, 2026 tutorial showed a model picker in the prompt box, with Claude Opus 4.6 chosen for the agent.

Bolt Cloud. Databases, hosting and custom domains are built in, with Netlify as an alternative host (Bolt).

Design to app. Bolt imports a Figma design or a Google Stitch export and builds an app from it, and can import an existing Lovable project (Bolt).

Mobile, payments and data. Expo for iOS and Android apps, Stripe for payments, Supabase for databases and sign-in, GitHub for version control, and MCP servers for outside tools (Bolt).

Plan Mode and slides. Bolt has a Plan Mode for working out an approach before building, and it also makes slide decks (Bolt Slides) (Bolt help center).

Bolt vs the alternatives

  • Lovable: the closest rival; credit-based, from $25 a month, with Lovable Cloud built in.
  • Replit: more kinds of apps and team tools, with Agent 4; Core is $20 a month.
  • v0: Vercel's builder; best for Next.js apps hosted on Vercel.
  • Cursor and Claude Code: for developers continuing a Bolt project in a full editor or terminal.
