JetBrains AI
JetBrains AI is the AI built into IntelliJ IDEA, PyCharm and other JetBrains IDEs: AI Assistant for chat and code completion, and Junie, JetBrains' coding agent. AI Free gives 3 credits a month; AI Pro costs $10 a month for individuals and AI Ultimate $30, as of Nov 6, 2026.
JetBrains AI is the set of AI tools inside JetBrains IDEs such as IntelliJ IDEA, PyCharm, WebStorm and Rider: AI Assistant (chat, code completion, explanations and edits) and Junie, JetBrains' coding agent, which also runs as a CLI. Usage is paid in AI credits worth $1 each. For individuals, AI Free gives 3 credits every 30 days, AI Pro costs $10 for 10 credits and AI Ultimate $30 for 35, and AI Pro comes free with the All Products Pack and dotUltimate, as of Nov 6, 2026. Junie Lite, a free model, is included in every JetBrains account.
JetBrains AI makes sense if you already work in a JetBrains IDE and want an agent that uses the IDE's own understanding of your code. The credits are small for heavy agent work, though: 35 credits is $35 of model use a month. Heavy users often add Claude Code, Codex or Cline (which has a JetBrains plugin), all of which JetBrains' own Air app can run side by side.

Source: JetBrains AI plans and usage, page dated Oct 14, 2026, and Junie, read Nov 6, 2026. The help page prints two tables without saying which applies to whom; the 10 and 35 credit plans match the individual prices on Junie's page ($8.33 and $25 a month billed yearly), and the 20 and 70 credit plans sit beside AI Enterprise and JetBrains' organization credit pool, so this page reads them as individual and organization prices. Check the buy page before you pay.
Unused credits do not carry over; top-up credits last 12 months and are used after the monthly ones run out. A credit buys a varying amount of work, depending on the model, the context and how many calls an agent makes. AI Free needs IDE 2025.1 or later and is not offered in Android Studio or the free Community editions. JetBrains AI stopped serving China on Jul 13, 2026, except with your own API keys.
Features
AI Assistant. Chat about your project, code completion, explanations, commit messages, tests and edits, inside the IDE and aware of its symbols and structure.
Junie. JetBrains' coding agent plans a task, edits files, runs tests and asks for approval, with a plan mode, live prompting while it works and remote control for runs left unattended (JetBrains). It also runs as Junie CLI in the terminal and in GitHub Actions and GitLab CI.
Junie Lite and your own key. Junie Lite is a free model in every JetBrains account, and Junie can use your own API keys for 10+ models, or a model running on your machine, at the provider's price (JetBrains).
Air. JetBrains Air, in public preview since Mar 2026, is a separate app for running several agents at once (Junie, Claude Agent, Codex, Gemini CLI at launch) with a terminal, Git client and preview around them; AI Pro and AI Ultimate include its agents.
Air in IDEs. In Oct 2026 JetBrains opened Air in IDEs, Air as a plugin and tool window inside JetBrains IDEs: you start a task, attach a file or selected code as context, answer the agent when it asks, and check its changes with the IDE's navigation, refactoring, testing and debugging tools. It starts with Junie Lite for free, takes other agents from the ACP registry, and runs Claude Code on an existing Claude subscription. At that launch, on Oct 1, 2026, JetBrains made the default agent and model free for a limited time.
JetBrains AI vs the alternatives
- GitHub Copilot: also has a JetBrains plugin and a flat monthly request allowance; better if your team is on GitHub.
- Claude Code: much more agent use per dollar on a Claude plan; runs in the terminal beside the IDE.
- Cline: free and open source with a JetBrains plugin; you pay only your model provider.
- Cursor: a VS Code-based editor; better if you are willing to leave JetBrains for a stronger built-in agent.
