Udio
Udio is an AI music generator that partnered with Universal Music Group (Oct 29, 2025) and settled with Warner Music Group (Nov 19, 2025); since Oct 29, 2025 songs can no longer be downloaded while it builds a licensed platform. It still has a free tier and Standard and Pro subscriptions as of Nov 6, 2026.
Udio is an AI music generator that makes songs with vocals from a text prompt and lets you extend, remix and restyle them. Since Oct 29, 2025, when it announced a partnership with Universal Music Group, Udio has been in what it calls a transition period: downloads were switched off that day, and songs can only be played and shared through udio.com links. On Nov 19, 2025 it signed a licensing deal with Warner Music Group that also resolved their copyright lawsuit, and both deals point to a new platform where fans remix and cover songs using the voices of artists who opt in. As of Nov 6, 2026, Udio's own blog and changelog announce no launch date for that platform.
Udio is worth a look only if you want to create and share songs inside Udio; anyone who needs files to publish, sell or put in a video should use Suno, whose paid plans include downloads and commercial rights, or ElevenLabs Eleven Music. Udio does not appear on Artificial Analysis's music leaderboards, read Nov 6, 2026. Best AI Music Generator compares the options.

Why can't I download Udio songs?
Udio switched off downloads on Oct 29, 2025 as part of its move to a licensed service; Udio called it "a significant sacrifice" in its announcement. Under the transition Terms of Service in effect since Nov 12, 2025, you can still make songs with the v1, v1.5 and v1.5 Allegro models, extend and remix them, use Styles, and share songs by udio.com link, including with people who have no account (Udio). In a Nov 3, 2025 video, AI Automation Labs reported that after users objected, Udio opened a 48-hour window starting Nov 3, 2025 to download songs made before the switch. Nothing on Udio's blog or changelog since then announces that downloads have returned, as of Nov 6, 2026.

Lawsuits and the label deals
In 2024 Universal, Sony and Warner sued both Udio and Suno for copyright infringement, TechCrunch reported on Nov 19, 2025. Udio announced its Universal partnership on Oct 29, 2025, and its post on the Warner deal says the Warner arrangement "resolves the companies' copyright litigation" (Udio). Udio says the labels do not own it; the deals let it train new models on their catalogs and work with their artists, who would earn from opting in. TechCrunch reported the licensed service was set to launch in 2026. The state of Sony's case against Udio was not found in a reputable source as of Nov 6, 2026.
Udio vs the alternatives
Suno is the practical choice for most people: paid plans include 20 to 60 downloads a month with commercial rights, and Suno v6 led Artificial Analysis's music boards on Nov 6, 2026. It still faces suits from Universal and Sony.
ElevenLabs Eleven Music says its tracks are cleared for broad commercial use, with rights by plan, alongside ElevenLabs' voice tools.
