Suno

Suno is an AI music generator that writes full songs with vocals from a text prompt; its current model is Suno v6 (Sep 9, 2026). It is free with 50 credits a day, no downloads and no commercial rights, and Pro costs $10 a month as of Nov 6, 2026.

Suno is an AI music app that writes and sings whole songs, lyrics and all, from a short description, and edits them section by section. As of Nov 6, 2026 the free plan gives 50 credits a day on the v6-mini model, with no song downloads and no commercial rights; Pro costs $10 a month ($8 billed yearly) and Premier $30 ($24 billed yearly), both with commercial use. Its current model family, Suno v6, launched on Sep 9, 2026, and TechCrunch reported that v6 was built with licensed data from Warner Music Group, BMG and Believe.

Suno is the pick for finished songs with vocals: Suno v6 ranked first on both Artificial Analysis music leaderboards, vocals and instrumental, read Nov 6, 2026. Two caveats: Universal Music Group and Sony were still suing Suno as of Sep 9, 2026, and free songs cannot be downloaded or used commercially. For voiceovers and short music cues in one subscription, ElevenLabs fits better; Best AI Music Generator compares them.

Who owns songs made with Suno?

Suno says songs downloaded on paid plans remain yours to use commercially or personally. Songs made on the free plan carry no commercial rights: free users who joined before Sep 3, 2026 got 7 lifetime trial downloads for personal use only, and newer free users get trial downloads only now and then. All songs stay playable and shareable on Suno. Whether AI-generated music can be copyrighted at all depends on the country and on how much a person contributed; Suno's terms are the place to check before releasing a song.

Features

Suno v6. Three models: v6 for polished results, v6-wild for less predictable ideas and v6-mini for speed, the only one on Free (Suno). You can rewrite one section in plain words ("change the chorus to a gospel choir"), change a single lyric without remaking the song, mash up several of your songs, and start from text, audio, an image or a video. Suno retires older models as v6 rolls out.

Suno Studio. A music workstation in the browser for arranging, editing stems and building tracks, launched on Sep 25, 2025. Studio 2.0 on Aug 13, 2026 added MIDI, built-in audio effects and Studio Chat, a chat bar that renames, edits and adds tracks from plain words, as Suno's launch video shows; Suno's blog lists a Chat release on Oct 29, 2026. It comes with Premier.

Covers, remixes and uploads. Upload your own audio (up to 8 minutes free, 30 paid) to extend, cover or remix it (pricing).

Watermarking. Suno said in Aug 2026 that it would start watermarking songs.

Lawsuits and licensing

In 2024 Universal, Sony and Warner sued Suno and Udio for copyright infringement, alleging they trained on the labels' recordings. Warner Music Group settled and signed a partnership on Nov 25, 2025; under it, WMG artists can opt in to have their voices and likenesses used, and downloads moved to paid plans (Suno). Suno then signed deals with BMG (Aug 12, 2026) and Believe and TuneCore (Sep 8, 2026).

As of TechCrunch's Sep 9, 2026 report, Universal Music Group and Sony were still suing, as was the musician Jason Isbell, and users had filed a class action after a data breach. TechCrunch reported on Jul 21, 2026 that the breach affected 55 million users, per Have I Been Pwned, and on Sep 9 that Suno had admitted a day earlier to training on YouTube videos. No ruling or settlement in the UMG and Sony cases was found as of Nov 6, 2026.

Suno vs the alternatives

Udio signed deals with Universal and Warner in late 2025 but turned off downloads on Oct 29, 2025 while it builds a licensed platform; pick it only to make and share songs inside Udio.

ElevenLabs Eleven Music says its tracks are cleared for broad commercial use and sits in the same subscription as voices and sound effects; pick it for videos, ads and apps. It ranked below Suno on both Artificial Analysis boards.

Google's Lyria models placed fifth and sixth on Artificial Analysis's vocal board (Lyria 3.5 and Lyria 3 Pro), read Nov 6, 2026; Mureka V9.5 was third.
