Comet
Comet is Perplexity's AI web browser, free for everyone since Oct 2, 2025 and available on Mac, Windows, iOS and Android. Its built-in Comet Assistant can read pages and carry out tasks for you; the agent needs a paid Perplexity plan.
Comet is the AI web browser from Perplexity: a desktop and mobile browser with Perplexity as its search engine and an assistant that can read, summarize and act on the pages you open. It has been free to download since Oct 2, 2025 and, as of Nov 6, 2026, runs on Mac, Windows, iOS and Android. The browser and its answers are free; the Comet Assistant's agent tasks need a paid Perplexity plan, per Perplexity's plan guide.
Comet suits people who already search with Perplexity and want an assistant that can do errands across tabs. Be careful letting any AI browser act while you are signed in to email or a bank: security researchers have shown Comet can be steered by text hidden in web pages. If you live in Google's apps, Gemini in Chrome adds similar help to the browser you already use; Best AI Browser compares the field.

Is Comet free?
Yes. Perplexity made Comet free worldwide on Oct 2, 2025, after a summer when it was limited to Perplexity Max subscribers and people invited from a waitlist. What costs money is the agent: Perplexity's plan guide, read Nov 6, 2026, lists browser agent (Comet Assistant) queries as not included on Free, with monthly limits on Pro, Education Pro and Max, 80 a month on Enterprise Pro and 800 on Enterprise Max.
Comet Plus is a separate news subscription announced in Aug 2025: $5 a month on its own and included in Pro and Max, with Perplexity saying 80% of the money goes to the participating publishers.
Features
Comet Assistant. A sidebar that sees the page you are on and your open tabs, to answer questions, compare sources or draft a reply. It can be paused at any time.
Agent tasks. Ask it to fill a cart, unsubscribe from newsletters, manage your inbox or plan a trip, and it clicks and types in the browser for you. Perplexity's Oct 2025 launch post also introduced background assistants that run several tasks at once while you do something else, and an email assistant for Max subscribers.
Perplexity search. The address bar answers with Perplexity's cited summaries rather than a list of links.
Security: prompt injection
In Aug 2025 Brave's researchers showed that instructions hidden in a Reddit comment could make Comet's "summarize this page" feature act on a user's logged-in accounts. Perplexity issued a fix, but Brave updated its post to say the attack was not fully mitigated, and a follow-up on Oct 21, 2025 found injections hidden in screenshots and faint text. This is a problem for the whole category: OpenAI said in Dec 2025 that prompt injection is unlikely ever to be fully solved. Keep agent tasks narrow and watch what the assistant does on sites where you are signed in.
Amazon's lawsuit
Amazon sued Perplexity on Nov 4, 2025, saying Comet shopped on users' Amazon accounts without disclosing that it was an AI agent; Perplexity called the suit bullying. A federal judge granted Amazon a preliminary injunction on Mar 10, 2026, finding strong evidence Comet accessed the site "without authorization," and the Ninth Circuit put that order on hold on Mar 17, 2026 while it heard Perplexity's appeal.
