HeyGen
HeyGen is an AI video app for talking avatars and video translation; its Avatar V model makes a digital twin of you from about 15 seconds of phone video, and it translates videos into 175 or more languages with lip sync. It has a free plan with 3 watermarked videos a month, and paid plans start at $29 a month as of Nov 6, 2026.
HeyGen is an AI video app that makes videos of talking avatars, including a digital twin of you, and translates existing videos into other languages in the speaker's own voice with matching lip movements. As of Nov 6, 2026 its free plan makes 3 watermarked videos a month of up to 1 minute, and paid plans cost $29 a month for Creator, $49 for Pro and $149 plus $20 a seat for Business, with Creator about $24 a month billed yearly. Its newest avatar model, Avatar V (announced Apr 8, 2026), builds your avatar from one recording of about 15 seconds shot on a phone.
HeyGen is the pick for creators, marketers and anyone translating videos: it translates into 175 or more languages and dialects against Synthesia's 70 or more for dubbing on self-serve plans. Synthesia is cheaper to start ($19) and stronger on structured company training (SCORM export, interactive roleplay); for generated cinematic scenes without a presenter, use Google Flow, Kling or Seedance, which HeyGen itself pairs with its avatars. Best AI Video Generator covers both kinds.

Features
Avatar V. HeyGen calls it its most realistic avatar model. From one short phone recording it learns your face and how you move, aims to keep your likeness steady across long videos and different camera angles, and lets you put the same performance in different outfits and settings (HeyGen). These are HeyGen's claims; no independent test was found.
Video translation. Upload a video and HeyGen translates the speech, clones the speaker's voice and matches the lips to the new language; you can review and edit the translated script before it renders, and translate one video into up to 10 languages at once. The free plan translates 3 videos a month of up to 3 minutes each (HeyGen). HeyGen counts more than 26 million videos translated (HeyGen).
Avatar IV digital twins. HeyGen's Digital Twin has run on its earlier Avatar IV model since Aug 26, 2025, when CEO Joshua Xu announced it with full-body twins on clean or moving backgrounds.
Cloning yourself. In Simon Crowe's Mar 5, 2026 tutorial, made before Avatar V, he cloned himself from a webcam: about 15 seconds reading a short script that includes a spoken safety code, which confirms consent, then a few minutes of processing.
Seedance scenes. Since Apr 7, 2026 HeyGen offers ByteDance's Seedance 2.0 to generate cinematic scenes, such as an opening hook, around an avatar (HeyGen).
Stock presenters and text to speech. Hundreds of stock avatars, and 10 hours or more of text to speech on Creator.
HeyGen vs the alternatives
Synthesia starts lower at $19 a month, has a free plan with 10 minutes of video, and is built for corporate training with SCORM, roleplay and survey sessions. Pick it for company learning; pick HeyGen for marketing, creators and translation.
ElevenLabs is the specialist for voices and audio dubbing without an on-screen avatar.
Descript edits recordings of real people by editing the transcript.
Google Flow, Kling and Runway generate scenes rather than presenters; Runway also offers real-time Characters avatars through its API.
