Grok
Grok is the AI assistant made by xAI, now SpaceX Super Intelligence (SpaceXSI), on grok.com, iOS, Android and X. It is free with limits; since Oct 12, 2026 the paid plans are The X Subscription, from $8 a month (Plus) to $200 (Ultra), bundled with X Premium and Cursor.
Grok is the chatbot built by xAI, the company SpaceX said it had acquired on Feb 2, 2026 and which now signs its pages SpaceX Super Intelligence (SpaceXSI). You can use it free with limits on grok.com, in the iOS and Android apps and in a tab on X; since Oct 12, 2026 the paid plans are The X Subscription, which bundles Grok, the Grok Bot agents, the Cursor code editor and X Premium in one price, from $8 to $200 a month (as of Nov 6, 2026). Its newest model is Grok 4.7, released Sep 21, 2026.
Grok's distinctive strength is live search across the web and X posts, so it answers about breaking news and trends as they happen. It also generates images and short videos (Imagine) and talks by voice. Pick it if you already pay for X or Cursor, since the bundle covers all three. Pick ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini if you want the longest track record on safety and moderation: Grok has had two widely reported failures, covered below. For a side-by-side, see Best AI Chatbot.

Features
Live search on the web and X. Grok's chat searches the web and X in real time and cites what it found, which is its main difference from most rivals for questions about what is happening now.
Multi-agent mode. For hard questions, Grok can run several agents in parallel, each showing its reasoning, and merge their work into one cited answer, according to xAI's product page.
Imagine. Image and video generation in the same chat: up to 2K images and 15-second clips, with 1080p 15-second videos on Super and above. The current models are Imagine Image 2.0 (Aug 7, 2026) and Imagine Video 1.5 with references (Jul 31, 2026).
Voice. Spoken conversations in the apps. xAI released its Grok Voice 3.0 speech model on Oct 14, 2026, first in its API.
Grok Bot and Grok Build. Grok Bot is a team of always-on agents with their own cloud computer, introduced Aug 11, 2026; Grok Build is xAI's coding agent, on every plan on web and mobile since Aug 19, 2026.
Models
Grok 4.7 is xAI's most capable model for coding and knowledge work. At launch it went to Cursor, Grok Build and the API; xAI's announcement does not say it reached the Grok app. The last model xAI announced for the apps was Grok 4.5 on Jul 22, 2026, followed by Grok 4.6 on Aug 12, 2026. In xAI's own table, Grok 4.7 scored 46.3% on CursorBench 4.0 against 51.8% for Anthropic's Fable 5.1, at a fifth of Fable's token price.

- Feb 2, 2026: SpaceX acquires xAI.
- Jul 22, 2026: Grok 4.5 reaches grok.com, X and the apps.

Grok vs the alternatives
ChatGPT is the safer default if you want the widest app ecosystem and do not use X. Claude suits long writing and coding work; xAI's own Grok 4.7 table shows Anthropic's Fable 5.1 ahead on most of the coding benchmarks it lists. Gemini fits people who live in Google's apps. Perplexity is the closer match for cited research answers, and lets you pick Grok 4.7 among other models on its Pro plan. Choose Grok when X's live posts matter to your question, or when the bundle with X and Cursor saves you money.
