Galaxy AI
Galaxy AI is Samsung's set of AI features on Galaxy phones from the S24 series on, plus newer tablets, watches and earbuds, such as Photo Assist, Interpreter, Call Screening and Now Brief. Samsung says its basic features are free, while future enhanced features may be paid, and Google's Gemini works alongside it.
Galaxy AI is Samsung's name for the AI features built into its Galaxy devices: photo editing by text prompt, live call and conversation translation, call screening, transcription and summaries, writing help and personal briefings. It runs on Galaxy smartphones from the S24 series onward, with support on tablets, watches and earbuds depending on the model. Samsung says its basic Galaxy AI features are free, and that future releases may add enhanced features or services offered on a paid basis (as of Nov 6, 2026); features from third parties such as Google can have their own terms.
Galaxy AI is the AI you already have on a recent Samsung phone, best for quick tasks inside the phone's own apps: editing photos, translating a call, cleaning up a recording. For a general assistant that answers questions, researches and writes at length, use Google's Gemini, which Samsung ships on its phones, or ChatGPT. iPhone owners get the equivalent in Apple Intelligence.

Galaxy AI and Gemini
Samsung's newest phones mix Samsung's own features with Google's Gemini. On the Galaxy Z Fold8, Samsung offers Gemini Notebook, which turns photos, documents and other sources into infographics and audio overviews, powered by what it calls Gemini Intelligence (Samsung). Google's Gemini app is available on Android phones, Galaxy included; see Gemini for its plans and limits. Samsung's own assistant, Bixby, handles device tasks and questions.
Privacy
Samsung's Knox Privacy settings let you choose whether Galaxy AI processes your personal data only on the device or also in the cloud (Samsung). Features that use Google's services follow Google's privacy policy. See AI Privacy Compared.
